This unique piece lent its name to the Viking art style of the same name (approx. 950-1030 - a continuation of Jelling-style animal ornamentation, with the gradual introduction of more vegetative and decidedly less geometric elements).

Bishop's robe with leather straps and buckles
The bishop's robe is a mesh-dimension necklace that covers the neck, shoulders, and upper chest and back. It was particularly favoured by the Landknechte Germans (mercenary soldiers) in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries and is woven in a similar way to a knitted cap. The shape of this piece of chain armor explains its name, as it resembled too much the very wide collar of a bishop's robe.
