Bucklers were small shields used in Europe from the 12th to the 17th century. Small in size, broquel was primarily used to prevent an opponent from attacking rather than protecting the body from attack. This Buckler is made of 1.3 mm thick steel (gauge 18) with wooden handle. The shield could be hung on the scabbard or sword belt when both hands were needed for a pike or spear.
