Irish cape sword with ring apple, incl. Sheath

This one-hand sword is based on several original finds and 16th-century drawings of kerns (ceithern), the light infantry men who constituted most of the Irish forces in the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. These Gaelic warriors, mainly mercenaries, proved their ferocity in many conflicts in the British Isles.

One of his weapons of choice was a sword with a wide blade and a distinctive ring-shaped apple that showed the tip of the blade crossing its center. This unique open ring apple was quite typical of the 15th and 16th centuries. Irish swords. Many surviving originals of this type have been found in archaeological excavations throughout Ireland and are exposed for people to admire in various museums, among others at the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin.

Our good-value reconstruction of the iconic Irish-Gaelic ring fist sword has a double-edged EN45 spring steel blade that is filled about two-thirds in its length. The edges are not sharp and the full ear of the blade is threaded into the pommel. The handle is composed of approx. 19 cm long crossguard with S-curved quillons, a wooden handle securely fastened in black leather and a sturdy ring pommel.

This beautiful piece of Irish history comes complete with a black wooden hem and square-tipped leather with steel throat and chape.

Please note that this medieval/Renaissance hand sword is not a battle-ready weapon. It is designed as a collector's piece or decoration/display and is not suitable for combat reenactment. In addition to his quality as a collectible, it is also perfectly suited as prop, for example, to complete his costume, and will make his transformation into a proud Irish fighter simply perfect.
