Viking sword, Petersen H type, various blade lengths, without sheathBattle ready (practical cut), SK-BThis battle-ready Viking sword was developed in close cooperation with fencing and martial arts instructor Volker Kunkel and his West-Coast-Institute. Unfortunately, Volker did not live to see the launch of this small series on the market. He passed away very early, in April 2021.The goal was to offer a sturdy, yet light and well-balanced sword, ready for battle, with a smaller budget. Here, Volker contributed his many years of experience as a fencing teacher, trainer, and traveling merchant in medieval markets. The Ulfberth® team and their blacksmiths have implemented these specifications and the result is a battle-ready Viking sword with a great value for money.Based on the original from 9 to 10 c. examples found in Birka, Sweden, and classified as Type H/I according to Petersen's Viking sword typology, features a spring steel forged blade, which has been hardened in oil and tempered with a Rockwell hardness of approx. 48-52 HRC. The very wide fuller makes it flexible and lightweight. The sword comes with approx. 2 - Edges 2.5 mm thick and tip rounded and relatively wide, which makes it eligible for combat on stage.Like many surviving historical examples of the time, the triangular pommel is a two-part construction: the complete spike of the blade is anchored to the lower section and the pommel cap is fixed to the base by means of two rivets.This sword is available with two different blade lengths (select the model you need from the drop-down menu: short = 64 cm / long = 74 cm). The short version is particularly ideal as a beginner's sword for fencers who are not yet very strong.Matching leather sheaths with sword belt (product no. This beautiful sword from the Vendel Period is loosely based on a finely crafted artifact kept today in the History Museum (Historiska Museet) in Stockholm, Sweden (Item 120525, SHM 10796). The original piece, a gilded bronze sword hilt (see last photo), is a tomb found at Broa, on the Swedish island of Gotland.Many finds attributed to the Vendel era (roughly lying between the Migration Period and the Viking Age in Swedish history) testify to the high quality of craftsmanship attainable in Scandinavia at the time.In terms of shape, this one-hander is a classic example of a Norse or Viking sword. The wide double-edged carbon steel blade is medium length, with a wide fuller running the entire length of the blade and disappearing just short of the point. The edges are not sharp, while the tip is pointed, and the full tang of the blade is threaded into the pommel.The beautiful hilt of this one-handed sword is made of bronze, polished and adorned with intricate motifs inspired by the original artifact. Since swords with all-bronze handles can tend to be heavy and a little unbalanced, we opted for a hollow hilt to get around this issue.Our one-handed Vendel sword comes complete with a brown wood and leather scabbard with wooden hanging loop (maximum belt width of 5.5 cm) and brass throat and hat.Please note that this medieval sword is not a battle-ready weapon. It is designed as a collector's piece or decoration/display and is not suitable for combat reenactment. In addition to its quality as a collectible, it is also perfectly suited as a prop, for example, to complete your costume.

This beautiful Viking sword is a reconstruction of an original find dating from the period between 950 and 1050, and is classified as an X-type according to Petersen's typology of Viking swords.The inscriptions on the blade are a distinctive feature of the original sword, which is now in the collection of the Musée de l'Armée in Paris, France. One side is marked with the well-known inscription of the manufacturer ULFBERHT, a Rhineland blacksmith's workshop believed to be one of the earliest "marks" of swords (with about 170 swords dating from the 9th to the 11th c., with the same inscription +VLFBERHT+, and found throughout Europe, even in western Russia). The other side bears the inscription DUNA + DUNA XX, a supposed abbreviation, whose exact meaning is still unknown.The replica offered here has a straight double-edged blade with sharp edges Like the original find, the wide fill is engraved with the inscription VLFBERH+T on one side and DUNE + DUNA XX on the other. The handle consists of a short steel protector with rounded ends, and a wooden handle wrapped in brown leather, which ends in a "tea cozy" pommel made of steel.The sword comes complete with a brown wooden and leather scabbard with a steel plate and a wooden hanging loop (maximum belt width of 5 cm).Please note that this medieval sword is not a battle-ready weapon. It is designed as a collector's piece or decoration/display and is not suitable for combat reenactment.
