Robert the Bruce helmet, medieval bascineto with aventail, 1.6 mm steel
The bascinet appeared in the early fourteenth century. It evolved from the so-called cervelliere or secret helmet (a simple cranial cap) and remained a popular helmet until the 15th century throughout Central Europe. The medieval bascinet we offer here is based on the helmet seen on the famous bronze statue of Robert I of Scotland (1274-1329) in Bannockburn. In 1314, after years of campaigning against the English crown, King Robert (commonly known as Robert the Bruce) defeated Edward II's army ofEngland at the Battle ofBannockburn, a decisive battle that eventually led to the restoration of Scottish independence. Like the legendary William Wallace, Robert the Bruce remains one of Scotland's most celebrated historical figures to date.

Helmo Spangenhelm of the 12th century Norman knight to the XIII Calibre 16
Well designed and meticulously crafted for a true Norman knight or a fearless crusader, this Spagenhelm, with its sturdy front plate, would perfectly complete its 12th and 13th-century staging outfits!
In the 12th century, the knights quickly realized that with the new double-boom technique becoming more widespread, having additional protection for the face was indeed a necessity, as most spear blows going over the shield would instantly kill a rider wearing the old nasal helmet style. At first, they added a front plate to provide additional protection against all attacks from the front and proved remarkably effective against enemy archers and mounted opponents (later, more plates were added to cover the back of the neck and fully wrap the head: the pot/big helmet helmet was born. But that's another story)
It is expertly HANDMADE of sturdy MILD 16 gauge STEEL and comes with a reinforced front plate as well as its historic counterjust. Functioning as a shock absorber, the genuine LEATHER LINER makes it more comfortable to wear and ensures that your eyes will always be at the right time to face the eye slit. A circumference of approx. 68 cm makes almost all head sizes fit.

And as surprising as it may seem, we have evidence that at least a few knights continued to use these Klappvisor cradles until the 15th century, even though they were outdated at the time.
FULLY FUNCTIONAL AND READY FOR BATTLE, this beautiful helmet is handmade in soft 16 gauge steel, lined with a comfortable and secure padded lining. A circumference of approximately 68 cm makes it fit into almost all head sizes. And a sturdy closed chin strap with a beautiful buckle will help keep your helmet in place during all your battles.
