Pugio de Vindonissa with silver inlays
Last items in stock
Pugio de Vindonissa with silver inlays This beautiful, richly ornamented replica of a Roman dagger is an example of great craftsmanship. Both the riveted handle and the front cover of the sheath feature a very elaborate silver inlay. The wooden sheath is covered in leather, with four characteristic riveted brass suspension rings for a proper attachment to the belt. The blade has a total of four narrow fullers tapering towards the tip. The edges are not sharp. Our reproduction follows the model of an archaeological find from the Roman legionary camp of Vindonissa, today Windisch, Switzerland. The apple displays a trident, symbol of Neptune, the Roman god of the sea. This may suggest that this Pugio was originally created for an officer in the Roman naval forces.

Details: - Material: mild low-carbon steel - Total length: approx. 37.5 cm - Blade length: approx. 25 cm - Weight (with sheath): approx. 900 g
