Despite the decreasing effectiveness of plate armor in the face of increasing effectiveness of firearms, the French cavalry in Napoleon's army still wore cuirass (medieval-style breastplates and backs) with mixed success. They were somewhat useful for deflecting musket and long-range pistol fire (we stress "a little"), but when the cuirassier's attire was paired with a helmet adorned with a feathered gorgon's head and ponytail, then a rather imposing figure on his way into battle. This beautiful and elegant sword was used by Napoleon's hussar regiments, light cavalry troops mounted on fast horses, specializing in reconnaissance and skirmishes. Designed to be fast, the curved blade is suitable for cutting, but is thick enough to withstand a rapier attack. Like the original, the spine of the blade bears the following engraving: "Mfture Impale du Klingenthal October 1813" (the first two words are abbreviations for "Imperial Manufacture"). The basket-shaped guard, knob and tang are made of solid brass like the original. Fully sharpened from the factory.
