Ingrid in a medieval dress with lace on the back, in natural color
Details:

- Available sizes: S, M, L, XL, XL

- Color: natural (also available in black)

- Material: 100% cotton

- Total length for size M: approx. 150 cm (measured from the highest point of the shoulder)

- Washing instructions: Machine wash at 40°C, gentle cycle, do not tumble dry.

This long medieval dress, made of lightweight cotton fabric, looks simple at first glance, but on closer inspection, it reveals a beautiful neckline in the back. The deep back is laced with a drawstring, allowing for individual adjustment of the dress. The darts on the bust ensure a good fit. The extra long puffed sleeves are made of a thinner, sheer cotton fabric. They have slits up to the shoulder and are tied at the upper arm with a drawstring. The cuffs of the sleeves are decorated with hand-sewn partial gatherings.

This cotton dress can be worn as a bottom dress or top dress. Dresses and overdresses with particularly wide sleeves were common in the twelfth century. They were not only elegant, but also a status symbol, since wearing wide sleeves was impractical for the working class. To protect their valuable outer garments, often richly decorated and fitted to the body, men and women of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries wore a simple dress with trumpet sleeves underneath. This dress was usually hidden, as it was considered inappropriate. Broad-sleeved depictions from the twelfth century can be found, for example, in the fresco of Santa Elena in the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Milan and in the illustrated encyclopedic work Hortus Peliciarum (c. 1180).

In the fifteenth century, dresses with trumpet sleeves came to be worn under a short-sleeved cotehardie (a fitted dress with ties or a button-down placket at the front). Before that, the dress was visible.

copy of Medieval woman dress
This wide-cut medieval dress is a floor-length dress with so-called gores on the sides. Gores, wedge-shaped/triangular-shaped pieces added to expand the shape of a garment, gave medieval clothing a generous touch.
The gathered neckline is based on a textile archaeological fragment found in Pskov, Russia, and believed to have belonged to a 10th century Viking dress. It has a slit in the front and can be closed with loops. The cuffs are also equipped with ties to create harvested sleeves.
