It made the knight's armor more comfortable to wear and could also absorb enemy blows, thus reducing the risk of injury.

This gambeson from Ulfberth is made of two layers of fabric: an outer layer of cotton fabric (canvas), a polyester filling/filling layer, and a cotton inner lining. The vertical seam secures the padding and increases wearing comfort. The gambeson is closed with straps, which are fixed on the inside and are therefore not noticeable. Slits at the sleeve hem and side seam increase wearing comfort.
This gambeson can also be worn as a winter coat.
