Brigandina was the most common form of protection among commoners and nobles. On a fifteenth-century battlefield you can find all styles of bandits, from the most common archers to the most expensive and luxurious of the high-ranking nobles. A versatile form of protection that offers excellent mobility, a historic brigandine is characterized by its ingenious construction. It consisted of hundreds of small plates under a sturdy tarp or leather cover that gave it an iconic look, with every row of plates appearing elegantly on the exterior. Not only did it look very distinctive, but it was extremely comfortable, precisely because of the excellent mobility it allowed.
