Scottish Claymore Sword of Two Hands, 17th century. XVI, no sheath

This two-handed clay sword (derived from the Scottish Gaelic word claidheamh -mòr, which translates simply as "great sword") is modeled after the impressive double-edged long swords wielded by the famous Scottish Highlanders during clan conflicts and border wars with the English crown between the 15th and 17th centuries.

One of the final developments of the Scottish sword, Claymore has proven its effectiveness for nearly 300 years. The two-handed sword was a powerful infantry weapon that could deliver devastating and devastating blows as well as powerful blows. Although his blade design was relatively simple but elegant, it featured a unique handle that set him apart from other swords of the time.

Based on surviving 16 c. originals (as can be admired, among others, at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh or the British Museum in London), our historically authentic and good value Claymore sword reconstruction features the classic design of this popular weapon.

The wide, long and evenly tapered full tang blade is forged in EN45 spring steel and filled to half its length. The edges are not sharp. The onion-shaped apple is made of steel and the handle is made of polished and stained wood. The distinctive 29 cm long steel guard is a block of high-collared quillon with langettes descending the fuller, forward-leaning quillons that end in quatrefoils.

This beautiful piece of Scottish history, evocative of the Highlands and the fierce members of the clan who fought and lost their lives there, comes without sheath.

Note that this medieval/Renaissance two-handed sword is not a battle-ready weapon. It is designed as a collector's piece or decoration/display and is not suitable for combat reenactment. In addition to his quality as a collectible, it is also perfectly suited as prop, for example, to complete his costume, and will make his transformation into a proud Scottish warrior simply perfect.
