Large winged spearhead of the early Middle Ages, approx. 61 cm

The so-called winged or lugged spear, which was used primarily as a lunge gun and often associated with the Nordics, is actually of frank Carolingian origin. Adopted by the Vikings, it continued to be used - both as a war spear and as a fighter launcher - until the High Middle Ages.

On the battlefield, protruding protrusions on both sides of the soquee were intended both to prevent excessive penetration into an attack (which would make it harder to pull the spear) and to trim enemy blows on the melee. When used for hunting ( such as a so-called boar spear, specifically designed for wild boar and thick hunting), these side wings were not only designed to prevent the speartip from penetrating too deep into the quarry, but also offered the hunter an additional level of control and protection against a wounded and frantic animal.

The impressively large medieval boom head we offer here is made of high carbon EN45 hardened steel. It's approx. 61 cm (24 in.) long and is approx. 45.5 cm (18" long edges. The wings are approx. 4 mm thick. With a blade so large, it funnels strongly from a wide base to a long, narrow tip, the spear bearer would be able not only to inflict deep and wide stab wounds, but also to strike sharp and sharp blows. Two pre-drilled holes allow it to be attached to the wooden stick of your choice to create your own spear or winged spear. Additional cable and mounting hardware are not included in the delivery.

Alternatively, collectors can purchase our wooden spearhead stand (available separately, product no. 1816375000) to display their treasures in style in their arsenal.

Please note that this spearhead is designed primarily as a decoration piece or collectible accessory and in no way suitable for combat reenactment! The blade tip is not rounded and the edges are not sharp, but slightly ground (with proper equipment and the necessary know-how and skills, they can be sharpened if necessary).
