Winged leaf-shaped spearhead, approx. 43.5 cm
The leaf-shaped spearhead was a recurring drawing throughout the history of the spear. Used since the Bronze Age, it came in the most diverse styles in many eras and cultures - from antiquity to the Viking Era to the Middle Ages.
The so-called winged or lugged spear, which was mainly used as a lunge gun and often associated with the Nordics, is actually of frank Carolingian origin. Adopted by the Vikings, it continued to serve as a spear of war and hunting (the so-called boar spear). , specifically designed for wild boar hunting and coarse hunting) until the High Middle Ages. Both on the battlefield and in the hunt, the wings or protrusions on both sides of the soquee were designed to prevent excessive penetration into an attack, which would make it harder to pull the spear. They also provided an effective means of trimming enemy blows to the melee and offered an additional level of control and protection against a wounded and frantic animal.
The winged leaf blade winged boom tip we offer here is made of tempered EN45 high carbon steel. In terms of design, it strongly resembles the Carolingian spearheads commonly used by warriors and hunters in the early Middle Ages and is therefore ideal for Viking and medieval scenarios (ca. 8/9 to 11/12 c.). It's approx. 43.5 cm (17.25 in.) Length and approx. The 34 cm (13.4 in.) long blade is reinforced with a distinct, raised end along its axis for extra stiffness and increased drilling power. The protruding ears have approx. 4 mm thick. Two pre-drilled holes allow it to be attached to the wooden stick of your choice to create your own spear. Additional cable and mounting hardware are not included in the delivery.
Alternatively, collectors can purchase our wooden spearhead stand (available separately, product no. 1816375000) to display their treasures in style in their arsenal.
Please note that this spearhead is designed primarily as a decoration piece or collectible accessory and in no way suitable for combat reenactment! The blade tip is not rounded and the edges are not sharp, but slightly ground (with proper equipment and the necessary know-how and skills, they can be sharpened if necessary).
