The round shell we offer here is made of approx. 13 mm thick plywood adorned with an elaborate snake motif and three runes of the Anglo-Saxon rune alphabet known as futhorc .
Although runes are of Anglo-Saxon origin, the serpent's motive can be interpreted as a representation of the Midgard Norse Serpent (also called Jörmungandr or World Serpent) . ), a central figure in Germanic mythology – which makes the shield suitable as a Viking shield. Along with Hel and the Wolf Fenrir, the Serpent is one of the three tormentors in the world. All three are children of the malicious god Loki and the giganta Angrboda. Jormungand lives in the depths of the great sea surrounding Midgard. His body is so exceptionally large that he circles the whole earth and grabs the tip of his tail in his mouth. When he awakens and stirs the ocean, great floods ravage the world of mortals. At the same time, the serpent that bites its own tail is a pregnant symbol of unity and the eternal return of all things. In the third meeting between Thor and Jörmungand in Ragnarök , Thor manages to kill the Serpent of Midgard with his Hammer Mjölnir.
At its center, the shell features a generously sized steel protrusion that is firmly fastened in place with four rivets and leaves enough room to accommodate even robust Viking hands. The shell edge is reinforced with metal and the back is equipped with a solid wooden handle.
While this medieval wooden shield may be a bit light and too thin for full contact, it's still a great accessory for staging, LARP, stage or TV/movie and will make its transformation into a proud Anglo-Saxon or Viking warrior just perfect. In addition, it is also a beautiful collectible piece or display.

Due to the specificity of the items sold by Loja Rei das Espadas, returns are only accepted under the following circumstances:
