It differs from germic ger ger however. Tacitus (Germania 6) describes the equipment of the Germanic warrior as follows:

Even iron is not abundant with them, as we infer from the character of their weapons. But few use swords or long spears. They carry a spear (the frame is their name), with a narrow and short head, but so sharp and easy to handle that the same weapon serves, under the circumstances, for a near or distant conflict. As for the soldier-horse, he is satisfied with a shield and a spear; infantry soldiers also spread each man's missile rains by taking several and launching them at an immense distance, and being naked or lightly dressed in a small robe. Our replica is hand forged from a single piece of carbon steel. The cutting edge is slightly sharp. It wasn't polite on purpose. Weld strokes give an authentic appearance.

The terms apricot steel or apricot designate a compound steel forged from two or more different types of steel. It is named after its birthplace, the Syrian city of Damascus, a former stronghold of standardized steel production.

As a common practice, a harder carbon steel and a lower carbon steel are forged repeatedly and folded together. High carbon steel ensures greater hardness, better toughness and longer-lasting edge retention, while smoother steel gives greater flexibility and tensile strength. This procedure, which arose at a time when the qualities of steel were generally low and inconsistent, allows to combine the positive attributes of the various types of steel.

In addition, the different hues generated by the varied carbon content of the alternating layers generate surprisingly beautiful patterns, such as the twisted motif called the Damascus Torsão Pattern or the Damascus Rose pattern. Undoubtedly, these unusual patterns partly explain why inherent magical properties were attributed to the Damascus steel blades of the Middle Ages. Such a blade of apricot sword is for example described as a bloody worm or a poisonous snake in the Edda.
