The gladius, the main weapon of the Roman legionaries from 3rd c. BC to the 3rd c. AD, has been used in many variations over the centuries. But eventually, this highly feared short sword was gradually replaced by the longer spatha during the Roman Empire.
The Roman short sword we offer here is equipped with a steel blade with EN45 spring (untempered, unhardened). The edges are not sharp and the complete blade post is screwed into the pommel (brass top nut). The handle is made of bone, guard and wooden pommel. The guard has a built-in brass plate. Unlike the classic-style Pompeii gladii, with straight and parallel cutting edges and short triangular tip, the blade features a lenticular/almond cross section and gently lines toward the ogival point. This specific blade shape is based on an unusual discovery of Xanten (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany), dating from the end of the Roman Empire (ca. 3 a.C.), but has been somewhat difficult to classify.
This one-hand Roman sword comes complete with a wooden hem and ornate leather with brass fittings. Unlike the blade, the sheath is modeled on real historical examples of the Pompeii type. The medallion is elaborately decorated with partially tin-plated details: The two iconographic plates mounted on the observation side show cut/perforated motifs engraved and engraved on a helmet figure with all elegance. The V-shaped frame, button-in-the-wall and horizontal band are adorned with a pattern of stylized curls and covered with a palmette. Molten brass hanging rings allow the wearer to carry his gládio in the true Roman way.
Note that this sword is not a weapon ready for battle. It is designed as a collector's piece or decoration/display and is not suitable for combat reenactment. In addition to its quality as a collectible, it is also perfectly suited as support, for example to complete your fantasy.

The steel used here is not rust proof and may present slight stain on the surface in some places. We recommend that you keep the blade and sheath regularly, for example, using the universal Ballistol oil, ideal for the treatment of steel

Due to the specificity of the items sold by Loja Rei das Espadas, returns are only accepted under the following circumstances:
- The product sent is damaged by proven manufacturing defect.
- The characteristics of the product sent do not correspond to those described in the Online-Store
All items are shipped in perfect condition. If you receive any damaged item and that is justified, you can return it. We will send an identical article in good condition. You can request a return by email. The customer has 14 days to return the item.
Returns of products subject to special, personalized or made-to-measure orders are not accepted.
