Champagne sword in wooden box (French Napoleonic briquet saber)
A short-bladed saber of French origin, the so-called briquet was introduced in the late 18th century and became one of the most popular infantry swords of the Napoleonic era. It is believed that the briquete (French for flint, striker or lighter) owes its name to its smaller size and the similarity to the lighters used by the troops of the time. At first a mocking neologism, eventually became the official name of this specific type of saber.
During the Napoleonic Wars of the early 19th century, the briquet was not only an effective melee weapon, but also a useful tool used, for example, to cleanse undergrowth.

It is said that it was the famous French commander and emperor (or rather, in all probability, his officers) who invented the tradition of the sabrage to commemorate the victories or overcome the defeats of napoleonic forces. This dramatic way to open a bottle of champagne with a flourish, using the blunt spine of a saber, is still used to this day for ceremonial or commemorative occasions.
The champagne opener we offer here is clearly shorter than the iconic infantry saber on which it is based and resembles a large knife. However, it closely reproduces the design and features of the original French briquete. The slightly curved, blunt blade with thick spine and pointed tip is made of low maintenance stainless steel. The handle is made of aluminum and features a typical D-guard that ends in a short, down-facing quillon.
To keep the champagne saber intact when stored or during transport, an elegant wooden box bound in dark blue velvet is included in the delivery. The case, of course, is also perfect for display purposes.
Note that this short saber is not a battle-ready weapon and is not suitable for combat reenactment. It is mainly designed to burst champagne and is also a good object collection, piece decoration, prop or gift.

When ordering a single item, the postage has a fixed value of €30, prices only for Mainland Portugal and Islands and Peninsular Spain. You must always indicate a telephone contact number to avoid non-receipt of your order.
National orders are shipped using transport systems appropriate to the size and weight of the goods. Some goods may require additional transport costs, either due to their size, weight or specificity. All transport costs will be communicated in writing to the buyer for approval, after which the order will be shipped.

Orders are generally shipped within 2 to 12 working days depending on the items chosen through CTT or Transport Agency after receipt of payment.

Due to the specificity of the items sold by Loja Rei das Espadas, returns are only accepted under the following circumstances:
- The product sent is damaged by proven manufacturing defect.
- The characteristics of the product sent do not correspond to those described in the Online-Store
All items are shipped in perfect condition. If you receive any damaged item and that is justified, you can return it. We will send an identical article in good condition. You can request a return by email. The customer has 14 days to return the item.
Returns of products subject to special, personalized or made-to-measure orders are not accepted.
- Products must be returned in the same condition as they were received and properly packaged
- We recommend sending the product by an insured carrier. We are not responsible for loss or damage caused to the product during transport.
