Apron dresses were a staple of viking attire. The most characteristic features of these overdresses were the handles and the simple tubular shape. These dresses could be fitted with slits, so-called gores (added wedge-shaped fabric pieces) or pleats, and some variants also featured an overlapping front. They usually ended up in the middle of the calf.
The Viking-era apron dress, also known as smokkr or hangerok (sometimes written hangeroc or hangerock), had two different purposes. While the simple variant was a kind of apron or apron designed to protect outerwear, the most elaborate variant - adorned with braids, embroidery, chains and ovais brooches (turtle) - was used as a status symbol. The historical evidence for this type of dress is confirmed by findings and representations of the archaeological sites of Hedeby and Birka.
Our slip-over dress is made of thick canvas fabric (100% cotton) and therefore very sturdy. It has a tailored fit and side slits. The lower hem, straps and neckline are offset in a different color. The Jelling style embroidery (or Jellinge) at chest height is a reproduction of a dragon/twin snake motif that can be seen in the 10th century. silver cup of the Danish ruler Gorm. The neckline and bottom bar are adorned with spine stitches. This type of point was already known and particularly popular for trimming hems in the early Middle Ages.
When combined with a simple Viking dress or shirt, a narrow belt, box or ovais brooches and a leather handbag, this apron dress is perfect for portraying a Nordic woman.

Orders are generally shipped within 2 to 12 working days depending on the items chosen through CTT or Transport Agency after receipt of payment.

Due to the specificity of the items sold by Loja Rei das Espadas, returns are only accepted under the following circumstances:
- The product sent is damaged by proven manufacturing defect.
- The characteristics of the product sent do not correspond to those described in the Online-Store
All items are shipped in perfect condition. If you receive any damaged item and that is justified, you can return it. We will send an identical article in good condition. You can request a return by email. The customer has 14 days to return the item.
Returns of products subject to special, personalized or made-to-measure orders are not accepted.
