Viking Sword with Sheath, Steel Damascus
Viking Sword of Eigg Island with Sheath, 9th C., Damascus Steel Blade
Decorating sword
This beautiful Viking sword is based on a silver-encrusted bronze handle excavated in 1830 on the Isle of Eigg, Inner Hebrides, Scotland. Although some parts of the blade have also been found, they no longer survive. The original and well-detailed discovery of the burial is on display at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. Dating back to the 9th or early 10th century, this finely crafted piece of Viking history is classified as a Type D according to Petersen's Viking sword typology.
As the blade of the original archaeological piece is missing, a classic Nordic shape was chosen for this reconstruction, and this one-hand sword features some of the typical features of a traditional Dark Age sword.
The straight, double-edged Damascus steel blade has wider, non-sharp edges. The handle, consisting of a short oval guard (approximately 10 cm long and 2 cm thick), a handle firmly coated with brown leather and a generously sized pommel, is cast in bronze. The guard and pommel are richly decorated and closely recreate the highly detailed engraved motifs and patterns of the original artifact. Like many historical examples of the time, the sword handle is a two-part construction. The full blade spike is threaded into the lower and flat section and the handle cap is attached to the base with two rivets. The beautiful details of the cover are accentuated by inlays of braided copper wires.
This ancient medieval one-hand sword comes complete with a wooden sheath and brown leather with brass throat, finely detailed details and antiques, plate and belt clip (maximum belt width of 6 cm).
Note that this sword is not a weapon ready for battle. It is designed as a collector's piece or decoration/display and is not suitable for combat reenactment. In addition to its quality as a collectible, it is also perfectly suited as support, for example to complete your fantasy.
A regular version of this sword with en45 spring blade is also available in our store (product no. 0116040800).
